Any aftermarket exhaust elbows?

Hello, my name is Ron and I am a new owner of a 90' 17' larson with a 3.0 mercruiser alpha one motor. I have just got done doing alot of work to this boat because the previous owner let it sit for about 6 years. The boat runs flawlessly now and is very fun to cruise around on.

Only concern I have is that the exhaust elbow was in REALLY bad shape. The ports were rusted solid with crap and even after soaking in muriatic acid for 2 hours, I still had to chisel them clean. I was wondering if anyone made an aftermarket elbow for this motor because it seems to me that this exhaust setup is very restricted. Any input would be appreciated.

Welcome to iboats.....:)
Muratic acid is a temporary fix, replace it before it fails & you get water in your engine.....
You might be able to get it here....
Ebasicpower & fredwarner1 on ebay should have them cheap as well....;)

How was the manifold? Me thinks your on borrowed time with that also.

What temp are you running at. 140- 190 max. Anything over 190 and your in trouble.

Re: Any aftermarket exhaust elbows?

The manifold was in excellent shape. No flaking, corrosion or anything. Almost looked brand new. The elbow was definately bad though. I chiseled the ports and reemed it with a wire wheel and honer. It is ok for now but needs replacing asap. We only have a few weeks left in the season here till noone will go out on the boat with me. That was the reason for this thread, instead of just getting the same oem elbow, I was hoping that there may be some sort of aftermarket elbow that would allow more flow and possible increase in performance.

Thanks for the responses and awesome site!! I see myself spending alot of time here and reading.

The boat is now running at a steady 145 - 150 at all rpms.

Well.... GLM has their flangeneverflat series, and their ever popular leaksalot serious.
If your looking to replace it a factory riser is the way to go.
You may want to seriously consider replacing the manifold along with the riser, as they tend to go in pairs.

Thats it Jason same thoughts as me.

Go o.e.m.

Been hearing alot of horror stories lately about china made stuff.

Starters, water pumps, elbows, manifolds.

I just got rid of 2 quads real p.o.s both of them.
