What grade fluid is used to service bow trim planes?

Are you talking about trim tabs? As in mounted on the transom and actuated by hydraulic rams? Bennett trim tabs use ATF. If you have bennetts here is their FAQs http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/faq1.htm#fluid

I thought only submarines had "Bow Planes". Does the forum have a section for submarines?

Yep. Talking about the hyd tabs mounted on the transom. Boat is an 89 bayliner trophy. I hear the pumps but tabs dont move so I'm hopeful the reservoir needs servicing.

Likely just need ATF added. There are two lines on the reservoir. Fill to the lower one with the tabs down and to the upper when the tabs are up. Cycle a few times and add if needed.

Thanks for the advise. Seems the consensus is ATF so we'll go ahead with that and hope for the best that its a service issue rather then a bad pump.
