johnson ouboard identification and info

I just purchased a 1963 Performer by Marvin Marine and it has a Johnson Super Seahorse. Themodel number is V4AL-16D and the seriel number is J2439067. I wanted to know the year of this motor and any other info that might be helpfull to me. When i recieved this boat the lower unit was off of it because it has a small crack in it (need to get a new one). The motor has good compression but has not been ran in a bunch of years. What steps should i take before starting this motor?

That is a 1964 75HP, Brian.

Go to the Engine FAQs Forum and do "Awakening a sleeping outboard".

thank you for the speedy reply. when i bought this boat i didnt even expect the motor to be any good since i paid $100 for the boat motor and trailer, guess i lucked out on the motor.
