I am buying a 2008 Reinell 200Lse. Wondering about gas mileage pulling this boat. Dry weight is 2800 lbs. With trailer, fuel, gear ect im looking at 4500 or so.

to be honest, if you are worried about gas mileage, you should not be buying a boat. boats an boating are recreational dollars you never worry about, or expect to see again.

I tow a 20 ft CC bowrider (about same weight) with 07 4x4 titan and get ~10 mph at 65 mpg and 12 mpg at 55.

I have an '07 Titan and tow my Searay 185 with it. If you tow 55 to 60 on flat terrain, the mileage isn't that bad. I've had close to 12mpg but never more than that. If you tow faster than that expect single digit mpg. It doesn't matter what V8 truck you get, they all tow around the 10mpg range.

Thanks, I was hoping I would find some titan owners out there that could answer this.

I tow my deck boat (6400 lbs total) with mine (2004 4x4), and if I keep it 65 or abouts I'll get 11-12 mpg. Anything faster and it just dives. But towing my old bass boat (18 ft. lightweight), I could get 15. Just regular highway, without towing anything, I can get 19-20. I agree with Tasha though, you can't worry too much about it or you'll find yourself not going!

Depending on the terrain and speed, but most of all on the engine RPM you tow at your milage will obviously vary. If you read your manual (at least mine with big tow package...2004LE) you are told to only tow in 4th not in overdrive (D in our trucks). The reason is so that when going up hills when more torque is needed shifting into and out of overdrive will not allow the torque converter to lock up and will thus heat up your tranny (even with the factory installed tranny cooler). I will tow my 20' bass boat in OD while on the highway if not hitting too many grades and at 70mph the rpms will not go over 2000 (same w/o trailer). When in 4th gear I'm running at almost 2500 rpms. Obviously there will be greater gas consumption at 2500 rpms. On long trips, I could get the same mileage with or without the boat as I was running the same rpms at speed. Either with or without the boat if I drove 60 versus 70 mph I could gain almost 3mpg from 13-16mpg. In daily driving I'm getting around 14mpg. Hasn't changed for 70k miles. Short of it, if you watch your rpm gauge and hear the engine, you can tell when your torque converter locks up and if you're alright in that gear. I usually just switch down to 4 then back to D when leveled out, I will typically tap the cruise control down a few times to lower the speed and get the torque converter to lock in...then slowly resume the speed with the cruise controls to keep it locked in. Also, I'd recommend flushing your transmission if you tow frequently...about every 36000 miles. Make sure your dealer has a "matic-j" only machine as the "matic-d" fluid contaminates the "matic-j" and will void your transmission warranty. The tranny flushes is one of the few things I will have done at the dealership (not the simple drain and fill which will not change the torque converter fluid...but the ~$300 actual flush). Be careful...matic-j is a very expensive fluid compared to other tranny fluids. Good luck...the Titans are great trucks...if you can handle the gas milage. FYI...i've never used the tow mode...which just lowers the shift points.

Re: Towing with Nissan Titan

Gas mileage and a Nissan Titan don't seem to be words that go together. Several buddies have them and most get in the 13 MPG range empty, and about 10 or so with a small boat or trailer.
We used one to pull my 18' Renken last summer about 20 miles, the gas gauge dropped like a lead weight. The boat was only in the 2700 lb range with the trailer and fuel. He has since sold that truck at a pretty big loss now that fuel got so expensive. There's a lot of those around for sale but none seem to attract many buyers now that the cat is out of the bag on the mileage issue.

I am sure it will realy suck the gas when I pick up the boat. I will be happy with 10-12. The Titan is very bad on gas I have noticed. If I could keep my foot off of the gas it would probably do better.

Sorry, but that is not true. I tow my 20' Key West with an 04 Tundra 4.7 and never get below 14. Most of the time we average 15-16. This truck unloaded will get 21 regularly with my wife driving.
None of this is true for the newer Tundras with the 5.7, but here in Florida with literally no hills, I don't need anything bigger or more powerful. These 4.7's are rated to tow 7100# and have been stout, reliable trucks.

Re: Towing with Nissan Titan

Cant dispute that I know the older Tundras got great gas mileage. I have never driven one but have heard they are good for towing medium loads. Anything big and they have power problems. If it is flat where you live it should be able to pull up to the max rated without any trouble. The new Tundra's have tons of power but with that goes horrible gas MPG. I drive a Ford F150 for work. They claim to have high towing and HP but I don't feel the HP at the rear wheels like the titan. The Titan is the same way. Lots of power that you pay for at the pump. It doesnt mater which truck you get there will be goods and bads to all of them. I am picking up the boat in Las Vegas on Sunday, I will let you know how it went MPG.

Ok I got the boat. I figure I got around 10-12 mpg towing. This was with the cruise set at 65 for most of the trip. It has been a while since I have towed a boat and am getting used to the added weight.

Re: Towing with Nissan Titan

I worked at a Nissan dealer for a little while. I have to say I really like the Titan for a truck.. The engine has a lot of power. The only suggestion I can offer, since you will be towing, make sure to change the rear diff fluid regularly. They get hot especially with a load on them. That is why after the first year they put the finned aluminum cover on it. But the fluid needs changing.

Re: Towing with Nissan Titan

Thanks for the info, how bad is the rear dif problem in the titans. It seems like all titan owners talk about when it comes to rear difs is they went out. I have a 2005 with the new finned cover. I am a little concerned about this. I have towed heavier loads but not for a long distance.
