Have a 2006 Mercury 90 hp, (3 cyl) carburetors / not fuel injected. Have less than 50 hours on the motor. The engine will run fine on some days and on others, will start off fine, but will cut out sometimes at low rpm's, but usually when putting it on plane. When it cuts, it feels like someone turned the key off, as it will drop from 44mph to 30mph when it happens, and I can't get it to accellerate past 30 or so mph. I have to idle the motor down and back up again to run it again, but it usually will cut out again. Had it in the shop for part of the summer and the shop did see what it was doing but could not figure it out. They tested the CDM grounds which were fine, I guess. The number 1 cylinder was the one with the problems, when it was acting up for the shop. Plugs were good and so was compression.

Not sure what your problem is but is your motor still under warranty? Be sure to keep all your receipts as a record in case your warranty runs out and the problem still exists?

Re: 90 hp Engine cuts out

The warranty was up earlier this year. In fact, I had it in another authorized Mercury repair center a few months after I bought the new boat & motor last year and Mercury would not warranty it at that time. They said that if I would have brought it back to where I bought it (5 hours away), they would have warrantied it. It was cheaper for me to take it to a local authorized dealer and pay for it myself. Needless to say, I didn't buy any extended warranties.

That B.S. on Merc's part, just because it isn't where you purchased it shouldn't void any warranty repairs. I could see if it was a local type marina that didn't deal in Merc's or have Merc mechanics but an authorized dealer should never be a problem.
Do you have any documentation relating to the matter? If so, keep it as I believe they are liable for your repairs as GM or Ford etc are? What would one do if they were on a boating vaction 100's of miles away from home? The trip would be a bust because your dealer is 100's of miles away? I wouldn't let this issue go away easy, fight them and I am sure they will come good for it. Good Luck..............Irv964
