Hi:
I have a 1984 75hp mercury 4 cyl, put it in the lake and it started ok, but when I shift into either forward or reverse it quits.
If I use the button on the throttle lever to just use the throttle, it will idle, and throttle up ok, no hesitation whatsoever. But when I put it back to neutral, then put it in gear, it just quits. doesn't make sense to me that if the motor is running fine, then goes under a load for it to do that. I am obviously not understanding what is happening here.
This is my first Merc, I have a manual and am going thru it, just have not run into this problem before with my evinrude.
Before putting it in the water I did a compression check-all cylinders are at 150psi.
spark was good
just rebuilt fuel pump.
Any ideas,?? and thanks for your patience
