Re: Perfect day on the water!

Been looking around at used motors....Man they want big bucks for the higher horsepower!
Wonder how big a difference a 250 HP would be? Would it be worth dropping 6k on a used one?
I better stick with the 175 for that price...;)
I would like to stay with a Johnson or Evinrude but have seen some pretty nice used Yamaha motors for sale.

Oh well, not in the budget now anyway unless i find a really good deal on one..:D

Re: Perfect day on the water!

I always thought that for its size it sets pretty high in the water.Even sitting still the boot stripe on the sides are out of the water.

they cannot sit any better than that.....perfect ! absolute perfection.

even though pic 4 was a turning pass, the water breaking surface was right where it should be......ill bet at around 40 miles an hour that thing rides like it is on rails,

i really really like that boat....you did a fantastic job....

and i cant beleive the leaves have hardly turned color on you yet......its mid oct...and you are in suntan weather with your babe on a boat !!!!!

lucky stiff :)

cheers

Re: Perfect day on the water!

Did you find the electrical problem that caused the origional lower unit to get so jacked up like that? I was on vacation during the summer and rented a J16 rental boat skiff that had a 9.9 Johnson motor. I stuck my hand back whyle the boat was at idle to see how hot the pee stream was. When the water touched my fingers i got a electrical shock that i could not believe! I did it 2 more times thinking that it was a fluke or something. The motor was running like crap so i thought maybee it was overheating or something. I think that a plug might not have been hooked up. I never had that happen to me before! Im going to ask this question in a different thread.

Re: Perfect day on the water!

Thanks oops!!
I was worried when i done the Seacast transom it would be heavy in the stern. It actually sets good.It does handle great for its size.
That picture #4 was just after a hard u-turn and getting back in the throttle..;)

Drewmitch,I never did find any electrical problems other than a couple coils were arcing onto the block when it was running.
I guess all that damage was from just being left in the water for about 3 years and never used.
Do you believe that old lower held together to get the boat about 4 miles to the ramp? Not a drop of lube in it.
I would have figured the thing would have been seized up..
I bought the rebuilt lower from SeaRayman on Ebay...gave me a heck of a deal.400 bucks shipped!
Thats why i try to sell so many service manuals for him.
The last manual he sent me was a free one...:)

OOOHHH Man , no oil in her man and looking like it did !!!!! she was really in ruff shape !!!!! she sure is a looker now !!!

I like the seat idea, in the one pic i thought that they were all matching seat , thats a great idea , can move them where you want !! and they really do look like there the same !!

I will bet if you did put a 250 on there you would only get another 10 to 15 mph out of her , a 300 you would hit 80 i would bet !! doesnt yamaha have a 350 out ??? ohh wait thats to big , you got a 300hp rating !!

Man if you did get a 300 or the 250 on her you would be passing a lot of them little speed boats , they would be giving you the look !! hahahhaa

I sure do like her Gary , she is a keeper !! Great job on her !!!!! John

Re: Perfect day on the water!

Thanks John!
I just happened to see those seats online and thought they would look ok in the boat.
They are really nice fishing seats..easy on the rear..lol!

You got me thinking about the BIG motor now..

Its fast enough as it is but you know how that goes.If you are like me i always want more speed..:p

I think i'll put some Smart Tabs on it over the winter.
I'm either thinking of those or a jack plate..

I need a 17 pitch prop to try.The 19 i have on it now only gets me around 5100 RPM at WOT.
I have 2 19 SS props.I need to see if anyone local would want to trade a 19 for a 17.

This would be sweet too..

Most of the newer big motors i have found are in Florida..salt water and high hours on them...thats scary when your talking that much money.

Chiefalen,
It took me about 6 months of working off and on to get it where it is today.
I have owned it about a year and a half now.
Still a work in progress.
Thinking of painting it.The top of the bow area and gunwales are a textured surface.I'm thinking of doing it in Interlux white.
Then from the boot stripe down painting the hull a nice high gloss white.
Not sure if that would be too bright or not.
The Dupont i used on the transom was a match from a 1980's era Toyota..
Matched the hull really good though...lol! It was 3 coats of base and 4 or 5 clear..I would love to do the whole thing with that paint but it was super expensive...Duponts best.

Ahh a boat! The money pit...lol!
Its worth it when you spend a care free day on the water though..
