Attached is a picture of 2 boats with the same hull types.

-I have the bottom with support bars. the bars get in the way.
-The top one does not.....those bars are absent. That is what I want.

I am a little afraid to remove the bars because I figure they must be there for a reason.

I need some help understanding what needs to be done to get what I want. no brackets? square support brackets?

remove them and your gunnels will flap like aluminum foil. they are structural.

Re: removing supports in aluminum

Not hard to understand. Look at the two boats. There is no cross seat in the upper boat. The upper boat has a live well that the lower boat does not. Don't you think the corner seat is anchored to live well and the live well anchored to the side of the boat and therefore it doesn't need the braces? Anyway, you are right -- they are there for a reason and have been installed in vertually every boat with cross seats I've ever seen since Hector was a pup. I see you have your rods tucked behind this brace -- what could be handier as you head across the water.

OK....I have a Lund SSv-16 and I have 3 of these things on each side.

Their rod storage function gets outweighed...my 72" width boat feels like a 60" sometimes

Has anyone tried doing a mod on these or is Lund the only ones who might be able to give me a spec for this?

The angle brace can be removed if it is replaced with a suitable replacement. The hull sides can be tied to the seat base using two U cannel supports similar to what is in the floor. Place one U channel on either side of the bench seat extending from gunnel to floor. That should give a suitable support to replace the angle brace. A large L channel will probably work also.
