Re: Are your driving habits changing.............

I don't know if it was gas prices or just getting old, but I drive much less and much less aggressively than I have in the past.

My driving has dropped from about 20,000 miles per year to closer to 5,000.

I used to drive at limit +5 everywhere, now I drive the limit or less, particularly in towns.

No more drives just to be driving, no more Saturday morning garage sale searches, no more long trips into the west just to enjoy our country. No more driving after dark.

Too bad. I really enjoy driving my ML. :(

Truck - the same as always - work and play - just hurts less now at the pump. Can't stop working, won't stop playing!

I too am driving less aggressively. I;ve slowed down and have continued to do so. I also use my wife's cavalier instead of my pickup for short trips to the store and the like.
While gas prices have come down, I still don't consider it cheap.

There is no way I could live like most of this. Other things would have to go first.

Gas is still not cheap. Never will be again. I really can't change my driving much. I've always conserved when I could. Sometimes I just can't.

No difference in car (which gets good mileage) or truck (which doesn't). I just don't drive the truck as an everyday vehicle.

my habits are definitely changing but nothing to do with gas prices. I have just decided not to pay speeding tickets like a teenager anymore. I now go 5 over or less and just cruise along. Sold my sportbike and bought a Harley. etc. It's not too bad although every now and then I still catch myself gunning down on the road.

Funny you ask that. Yesterday was the first non-rainy day in 2 years that I took my truck to work instead of my bike. Gas is cheaper now than it was when I bought my first scoot in 2006. I can't justify freezing my zongas off in 37 degree weather at 55mph to save what amounts to 1/5th of 2.50. I would have to freeze my butt off for 5 commutes to and from work to save 2.50.

I drive a Festiva, I don't know what else I can do.:D

I have a suggestion, ride a super scooter! 100mph at 50mpg with up to 20 gallons of storage between the underseat compartment and an detachable external trunk. A 250 can do 80mph and get 70mpg.

I cut back on my joy riding by about 50% when gas jumped up to 3 bucks and more a gallon. Now I am planning another trip to the coast in 2 weeks thats a 400 miles round trip. I feel better going now even though the cost isnt really the issue..Im retired and really dont need to drive much at all.

Nope. Still combining trips and conserving as best I can with what I drive. Also working on not wasting as much. Examples would be recycling, repairing instead of replacing and thinking twice before buying anything. Always been a defensive driver. I never assume anything. I'm turning into my grandparents which isn't a bad thing imo.

Heh, I shouldn't really talk... both my wife and I just got speeding tickets within a week of each other. I really don't normally speed though... but that day I was really running late for work... so I was speeding the whole way there... it was my first in 6 years, and hopefully my last. I went to court today on it, and the judge dismissed it... for the price of court costs and a 4 hour driving school.

My wife's was the first she's ever gotten... first time she's even been pulled over... but she does speed normally... she kinda just goes with the flow of traffic... because she's always right up behind someone tailgating. I know, that's worse... and believe me, I've told her many times. Hopefully the judge she goes to see will send her to a full defensive driving school.
