Is it recommended to install a windage tray when rebuilding a 350cu in I/O?

Windage tray???????????? What's that? Jerry

A windage tray mounts to the main bearing caps and helps to keep the oil from being drawn into the crank. This robs horsepower and airates the oil.

It can't hurt to install one. I just don't think its needed for 4800 rpm. I would put one on if I was building a motor. I like the diamond mesh ones best.

Re: windage tray

I was thinking more along the lines of keeping the rolling oil from contacting the rods and aerating the oil. I think it can't hurt but didn't know of reading anywhere it was a good idea. Not looking for any performance gains.
