rev limiter question

Hi, hopefully you can help me, I recently had to take boat into shop and had new wire harness put in along with a new rev limiter on a merc 125, the problem I have now is the boat gets up to about 5200rpm and the motor shuts down before I get to full throttle, I know the boat use to run at about 5500rpm at full throttle, I thought they put the wrong limiter in but checked my motor and it states that it has a 5250rpm max so they may have the right one in there, just wondering if this is normal for motor to shut down at 5200 with still some throttle left, I also noticed that my voltage gauge on dash reads nothing and was wondering if theres a way to test it or if they may have overlooked another part that should have been replaced and what it may be, I may want to pick it up myself and install it so if anyone thinks they know what it may be please offer advice. Thanks Much I forgot to mention that my battery posts came in contact with my alluminum cover and that is how I fried the harness and limiter to begin with and why I think they may have missed a part that would have an effect on the voltage gauge not working. Thanks again

Re: rev limiter question

Thats normal with a rev limiter, if you have a lot of throttle left and want the most preformance you may want to increase the prop pitch.

Re: rev limiter question

Thanks for reply Laddies, I dont have much throttle left and always backed it off anyway to run about where its at now, My other question is do you think I may also need a voltage regulater to get my gauge on the dash to read ? any way to test it or any ideas on what additional part I may need. Thanks

Re: rev limiter question

See if you can't find someone with a test meter and test it first.
