I have a 60Hp Mariner 1982 Model 675 2 Cyl outboard. How do I get access to remove the thermostat? My manual tells me how to test the thermostat but not how to remove it. There is a cover plate on the side of the motor but I cannot remove the bolts at the bottom because there is not enough room before they hit the side wall of the cover housing. Thanks for your help.

On model 675-2 cyl 60HP engines the thermostat should be on the head

Re: Can't Access Thermostat - Mariner 1982

Thanks Laddies, yes the thermostat is on the side of the power head. It is covered by a triangular looking plate which is bolted to the head with about 10 bolts. If I try and remove the row of 3 bolts at the bottom of the triangular plate, as they are undone, they hit on the metal side of the outboard (the base that the cover goes on). So, I cannot remove the triangular plate and I cannot get access to the thermostat. The reason I want to check it is that I only have a dribble of cooling water exiting the head. I also need to check the impellor.
Regarding the thermostat ? I don?t have the remove the power head do I??
