I bought a Evinrude 15 hp model number E15RENM. I think it is a 92 using the introduces method. I pulled the plugs today and they had a pre-mix on them. I know that they are supposed to be a light to medium brown, any ideas? I will be buying new plugs and taking it out on the water tommorrow. Oh the motor runs fine, starts on first or second pull, and gets up rpms pretty quick. I will be pulling the carb and probably doing a de carb and rebuild. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Champion L16V

It is a 1992, 15HP as you've indicated.

Check out Evinrude's Part Website

You'll find all the part #s specific to your model

Here is some info on spark plugs and how they look Spark Plugs but I don't think it's unusal to have small amounts of pre-mix, etc. The old plugs may not be in great shape. Run new ones for a trip and then check. You might find they're older and not firing as well, etc

Re: What year and spark plug ?

The preferred plugs are QL77JC4.

Optional are:

L77JC4 the non suppressed version of the above
L16V surface gapped and the suppressed version QL16V

My understanding is that the surface gapped plugs are suited to sustained high speed use.

It was recently pointed out to me that the Boatsetup site was last updated in Jan 2007 and that the latest recommendations are obtained from the "more details " magnifying glass on the Shop.evinrude.com parts list.
