Boy do I feel outta the loop. I havent been able to search and chat this forum for a long dang time. Our IT guy at work has installed this invasive little web filter fittingly called Baracuda. It blocks access to anything under hobbies/recreation, shopping, sports, fun, etc. Sucks, and I cant figure a way around it yet.... I fear that I may have to actually start doing work at work and save my iboatin' for home.

I hear you. Since joining, I have been consumed, and work ethic at real work has suffered. I dred the monthly report that shows the sites visited and time spent. However, I work for a US unit of a Canadian company, (Canadians love the outdoors/hobbies. Barbecue in snow!!!) I should be ok.

Don't you hate when that happens?
We upgraded our filter the past month too.
The first day was a real pain...couldn't do anything...not even work related.

It embarrasses me that so many are cheating their employers instead of doing what they are paid to do. :(

My employer is me.

That has good, and bad points. No one automatically supplies me with anything to do, bad point. The good point is I can generally do it when I want, when it is there. When it is there, is the key to the last sentence.

It is really slow, and I mean really, really slow over here. In years past, I had little time left to eat or sleep. Hobbies were not part of my life for at least the last 25 years. 80 hour work weeks, no vacations. Now I have a little extra time for life, but the money doesn't flow like it used to. A nice compromise between the two is what I would like now.

So if I spend time here during the day, when I have work, it just gets moved to the middle of the night, or the weekend.

When I work on site, instead of my office, I don't touch the net if it doesn't have a direct correlation to the job at hand. It often does, but I make sure that when I leave, I leave with the cleanest list of IP addresses visited, of anyone in the company.

Re: Blocked From Viewing iboats...

since I started my new job last month I was told No one is supposed to have internet without special permission. I had to talk my way in to it since many of my customers use a web based deal to upload and store the files I need to produce their product. the only non work related internet I use is to check the weather or my bank account.

Welcome to the 21st century. Some folks cheat their employers, some cheat on their wives/ husbands, some on their taxes, some folks even cheat themselves.
Some of this stuff have probably been going on from the time that man set foot on planet earth, i don't see any changes coming anytime sooner or later.

i can't imagine, anyone wanting to block the best site on the web. employers should require all employees, to view it, 15 minutes in the morning and afternoon. rest and recuperation.
