Water Temperature

I have a 1982 Johnson 75 HP. I recently changed the water pump. After it was changed my temperature was running about 150 degrees. All of a sudden it has been running at about 175 degrees. The tell tale spray is working and water is coming out the back telling me it is pumping. Can someone tell me why the temperature has gone up and is there a way to flush out the system? Also, if I wanted to hook up a water pressure gauge, where on the engine does the hook up connect?

Thanks

Re: Water Temperature

you either have a failing impeller or thermostat. you can remove the tstat and back flush the water system. WP is hook up is a T off the tale tell outlet.

Re: Water Temperature

Thanks for your reply. I changed the thermoustat last night and have great water coming from the pee hole, but still the temperature is running at 175 degrees.

Re: Water Temperature

I have a temperature gauge. It is the type that has a rod that presses against the block on the exterior. Would the temperature of the pee hole water be a sign that the temperature is ok. I can let the water squirt into my hand with no sign of high temperature.

Re: RPM at Idle speed

I have a 1982 Johnson 75 Hp outboard motor. My question is what should the rpm's be in the water in neutral?

Re: Water Temperature

I was reading other forums on this website and came across the Synch and Link Procedure. Once again I have a 1982 Johnson 75 HP outboard. Can anyone explain to me what this procedure is and where I can find info on it. I have the manual for my outboard, would it be described there?
