Remote Control Dead

I have a 1991 Ranger bass boat with a 150 HP Evinrude. This past weekend it refused to start. It acts as if there is no power to the remote control box. There are no beeps when the key is turned to on position. The motor trim rocker switch on the top of the throttle handle does not work. The motor trim switch on the side of the motor does not work. The motor trim toggle works in the bow of the boat so I could raise my motor. Nothing happens when the ignition key is turned to starting position. I could find no fuse or in line circuit breaker for the remote control box. The three prong cable below the ignition key is intact. There are 3 wires going up the bottom of the handle for the throttle lever.

I have tried everything I can think of but come up zero. Any hints or help would be great. I am lost and unsure if a new side mount remote control is in order.

Thanks...Pablo

There should be a fuse under the hood of the engine, I am not sure of the exact location but if you follow the + cable from the battery, the fuse should be after the solenoid.

How about the DEAD-MAN-SWITCH?????
Has it got accidentally knocked into the OFF position???
I believe that one of the indications of this not in the on position is there is no beep when the ignition key is switched to the on position.

Re: Remote Control Dead

Thanks flycaster and fdmsiv. I'll check under the hood tonight when I get home. The dead man switch was in place properly. Even with the dead man switch out the trim switch will raise and lower the motor. The motor will not even attempt to turn over. I have a big fishing trip planned to Amistad in 2 weeks. Hopefully I'll get it going.

Re: Remote Control Dead

sounds like either a fuse as suggested or dirty/loose battery terminal connections. How many volts on your batteries?

Re: Remote Control Dead

Thanks a million fdmsiv. In Texas I now refer to you as the "hombre grandisimo".

I found the fuse you talked about next to the starter . It was an in-line fuse and indeed it was blown. It was an odd looking glass fuse marked 32 volt and 20 amp. It was 1/2 inch long with only about 1/8 inch of glass showing. I couldn't find them except at a boat place. Cost me $2 apiece. I'm keeping a couple on board now. I wished this type thing was mentioned in the owner's manual. My son was stranded at a very remote rural location where cell phones don't work when this happened.

I love happy endings.......hopefully the fuse will not keep blowing.
