Extra Fuel Tank Install Question

We want to add an extra diesel fuel tank to our boat.

The main tank is 40 gal aluminum and has two returns..
One return from the main engine which is Yanmar and the other is from the AC generator which is a 6kw Ficher/Panda.

We are planning to add a 20 gal. reserve tank, and a12v fuel transfer pump to move fuel to the main tank.

How do we access the main tank to allow this transfer to happen? Do we have to drill out a new hole in the main tank and add a new fitting? Or can we simply cut into one of the return lines with a ?T? and have the reserve fuel enter the main tank this way? Would a check valve be necessary or will gravity just allow the fuel to move. What about an anti siphon device? Will one be needed, if so where.

Thanks for your help. Please email any response to: jeffrey54@comcast.net
