My 3.0 L OMC had water in the oil. While I was running it I noticed water leaking under the water mainfold around the gasket. Could the gasket cause water to be in the oil or is more likely to be a head gasket or head problem. What should i test or where should I start??? Thanks so much for any help in this matter.

How much water is in the oil? Any possibility it froze with water in the manifold and block?

From my experience, most likely you have a rusted manifold. Water gets in the cylinders through the open exhaust valves.

My 3.0L has been very reliable over the 11 years I've owned it, except I am on my 3rd manifold.

I now fill the manifold & block with 50/50 coolant every winter.

.

He has water in the oil, not in the cylinders. Water in the cylinders would stay there or be a very very small amount leaking past the rings into the oil.
Water in the cylinders also causes a hydrolock. no mention of that either.

Re: Water in oil 3.0 L OMC

I drained the oil yesterday and when i pulled the plug about 1 cup of straight water came out, then all the milkey oil. When i first started running it, it was running good. Right before i put it on the trailer it was idling rough, but at higher rpm's it smothed out. Never Hydrolocked. Oil looked good before i put it in the water.

Thanks alot for you help

What year?

Saltwater used?

Cold where you are, general area of your location?

Did you pull the valve cover?

I pulled the t-stat housing completely off the head, Shine a light into the hole, see a hole thru the wall into the pushrod hole?

Touch it with a screwdriver the wall right behind the opening.

Somewhere a water jacket is split and letting water into your oil.

Did you overheat?
