Good morning,

I pulled my boat out after it's first season in the water and found a dime size hole in the bottom of my boat. The boat is less than a year old and is under warranty.

I have no idea how this could have happened since I am an extremely cautious driver.

Can anyone offer their insights on the two questions below?

Would this hole be covered under the warranty?

What are the best solutions in having this fixed?

Note: I'm new to this forum so my apologies if I have posted incorrectly.

Whether it's covered by any warranty will be determined by Why it's there....

1. What you're most likely looking at is an air bubble under the gel coat that opened up, it?s not uncommon and technically, no they don't need to fix it, most warrantees don't cover cosmetics and gel coat problems are considered cosmetic issues. After saying that, many times they will fix it for good customer relations.

2. If it is an air bubble, the hole gets filled and color matched gel coat is used to finish it off so it will blend in.

I do not have a picture. The hole is on the bow, drivers side and is located on one of the grooves (not sure of exact terminology) underneath the boat. Looks like it sits below the waterline.

The boat is stored on a shore station when not in use (in season). One theory I have is that the the beam on the shore station caused the damage since one of the grooves could have sitting on the beam. Our lake had severe flooding in Sept. and my neighbor had to raise the SS to keep the boat from slipping off the station.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the reply

Sounds like your lift punched the hole in the boat. In that case, I would think that your warranty would not cover repairs. If you were using the lift properly, I think I would be talking to the lift manufacturer in the near future.

i gotta go to work now.......but...!

look at the hole....inspect it closely........is is a puncture hole?....does it look like somthing punctured it.....these holes can have cracks in the "paint" around the hole......

if this is the case....then jay is correct......and do as he suggests.

if you cant see any reason for the hole to be there, and it just seems like a strange looking hole.....

then ondarvr is correct.......(if it is a manufacturing issue....he is allways correct)

in any case....it needs to be fixed now! dont let the boat hit the water with out it being fixed properly.......4 hr minimum at 75 an hr. if you get lucky....a glass guy will come out and do it at the dock for 100 an hour.

behind the hole is uasually foam. the foam MIGHT act as a barrier toward the water for a short while....but after time it will actually start to suck the water up like a sponge.......we call it waterlogged.....your boat will still work...but it will be really heavy. that causes sluggishness and huge fuel bills,
and your boat will need to be totally refitted.

You keep it at a marina?

And they lift it with a forklift to a storage rack?

If yes to the above, talk to the marina owner, tell them to call there insurance carrier.

Bet it's not the first hole they had to fix that they caused.

Or you can call your insurance carrier.

Then they will talk to the marinas insurance carrier.
