Re: starting problems

what year/model is your motor?
90% of starter problems are bad connections. remove and clean both ends of the battery cables, so that they are shiney, also the cable from the solenoid to starter. check for nicks in the cables. and make sure the connectors are on the wire good. the cable tend to corrode from the inside out, if nicked, corroded wires, and connections, heat up and cause resistance to the follow of electricity, thus the starter doesn't get enough. you can also take jumper cable pos battery post to large post on starter. with a good connection, the engine should spin. then if the starter is good clean everything and retest. then trouble shoot solenoid. starters can be rebuit at a starter/alternator shop, much cheaper than a new one.

also have the battery load tested at the auto parts store, free, i've had new batteries go bad

Re: starting problems

So the flywheel stops but the starter continues to run with the bendix STILL ENGAGED, is that what you are saying? The starter bendix drive is shot (slipping). Not all of them can do that, but some can. However if it is kicking the Bendix out, the starter or cables need attention as already mentioned.

Re: starting problems

ok thx 4 the info guys ill try lookin @ the solenoid everything else looks good, ill get bk to u on the model n in answer to F.R 's question , yes thats correct n yea the battery that went dead was brand new lol but got an exchange , the starter will jump up , start to turn the flywheel n then drop down a little n cont. to spin. didn think about jumping the starter , would covering the battery leads with liquid elec tape b a good idea to keep them from corroiding? the battery's in a box but does sumtimes get wet. thx again 4 the quick reply i hope to get this thing running again soon the biggg fish r biteing !!!
