I posted a thread a few weeks ago asking for the best replacement drive possible for my engine. I in return forgot to say thank you for the respons. Thank you very much for you responses. I am a mechanical designer by trade and know engines but when it get's to the out drives I am totaly lost. I was told the only replacement drive was a bravo. With so many to choose from I am hoping someone can help me identify the drive I have. All I want to do is repair the drive to it's origional safe operating condition. Attached are a few photos of the drive. My main concern is the crack just behind the prop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

excuse me! Trying to upload the pics but the site won't allow more than 56 somewhat KB'S. Think they need to upgrade their system?

It's a Bravo drive, but could be a Bravo I, II, or III.
Need pics.

Re: Help identify my stern drive

It's a Bravo I, the crack is in the exhaust section of the drive. Probably due to the drive being up, full of water and freezing. Or, due to all the corrosion from lack of anodes and maintenance.
Basically, you need a new housing to fix it, or run it till it dies completely. There really isn't any repair for what you have.

Thanks Don S,
I just bought the boat a month ago and I would say the lack of maintenance also. Just wanted to be sure of what it was. I am going to to replace it and the anodes also. Wish me luck.

There is a repair but it would take a master with the correct welding equipment to fix.

The drive will have to be taken apart all rubber seals removed and than reassembled without any rubber in it.

Or you will have to replace the shell if the gears are still good.

The donor boat i received had a crack just like that and the drive worked great.

No water in the oil ether.

The guy i bought it from said he's been using it for 3 years like that.

The drive was a alpha one.

Bye the time you locate and pay someone to do the repair it just might be cheaper to buy a new one.

There has been good reviews of the sei on top of this page, they make a replacement? I don't know.

SEI currently offers the SE121(Bravo 1 lower) for $895 No upper yet.

I have an SE116 lower that I have been running since '06 with absolutely no complaints.

Look that may be the way to go, your upper don't look that bad.

Keep old lower and if the gears are still good and such use them as a spare when needed.

This would be a the site to buy it from. They stand behind everything they sell.

Re: Help identify my stern drive

Just sell the old lower on ebay - I got $300 for mine(alpha), damaged. if all of the internal components fo your Bravo are still good, you might get more. Cuts the replacement cost and keeps the clutter out of the garage.
