Seafoam and Green Stabil

I've been reading some think about adding Seafoam and/or Green Stabil to your gasoline. I just acquired a 1996 Force 120HP motor and it is running great. I was wondering if it is a good idea to go ahead and starting adding one or both of these to my fuel tank. If so, how often? Does anybody else use these on a regular basis even if you are using the boat relatively frequently?

I add a can of Seafoam occasionally to the tank. How often depends on how low you let your fuel drop before re-filling. Read the manufacture instructions on how much to add per gallon of fuel.

It helps reduce carbon deposits and reduce plug fouling. Good stuff!

I only use Stabil if the boat is going to set for a while (2 weeks or more) and before storing for the winter.

i use stabile just before putting the boat up for winter. i ran seafoam earlier in the season & appeared to help w/ starting & overall running. i plan on running seafoam each year once into the season & will continue using stabile at the end of the year. the motor ran great this past year!!

I read that the green stabil helps protect against the ethanol that is used in today's gas. Would it be wise to use this product all the time?

Yes.

I use Seafoam in every tank, year round.
Have done so for 7 years.

Todays gas is garbage compared to just a few years ago.

There is nothing wrong with todays gas. We've been using ethanol blended fuel over a decade and the only time there is an issue is if a fuel system has been neglected over the years and the engine must now burn E10. E10 is an excellent fuel system cleaner so it loosebs up all the gunk, including the stuff that's in the carbs and thus can plug things up. Rebuilding the carbs and replacing hoses with ethanol compatible versions is all thats required to be back boating happily.

Re: Seafoam and Green Stabil

Thanks for all of the replies guys. I think I'm gonna need to add the Stabil or SeaFoam in my fuel in the next couple of days. I thought it was gonna be warm enough to take the boat out but it looks like that may not happen for a while. What's the procedure for adding it? Do you need to add it and then run it through the engine for a while? Or just pour it in the tank and leave it?

run BOTH thru the motor. ck ounces per gallon. i run a bottle of stabile thru two 6 gal tanks at the end of the year. thats plenty of stabile as the mix is something like 1 (six or eight oz) bottle per 25 gallons??? you may want to wait until next season w/ the seafoam (it's mainly for decarb). again, i ran a can thru both tanks around mid season. expect some smoke w/ seafoam - guess it's burning out the gunk from rings & carbs & so on...i think both are really good ideas.

Thanks! I think I will put Stabil in it tonight and run it through the motor for a few minutes on muffs since it might be too cold this weekend to take it out.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and open a can of worms. Can you spell platitudes?

Don't fix it if it ain't broke. Putting that crap in an engine with no problems can do nothing but harm.

Smatter of fact, over on the Chrysler Crew a while back, there was a fellow who melted a piston right after treating his gas.

OK! Now everybody jump on me and tell me how wrong I am. You're allowed your incorrect opinions. This is Amurica.

Who said anything about ethanol, or E10?

There are several things different about todays gas, that make it inferior to gas of a few years ago. But you won't believe me anyway, so go find your own data and read it.

Todays gas DOES go stale in less than a month; It does absorb more water; Contains more additives which are useless or harmful to 2 stroke carbed motors.; And contains less energy per gallon.

Run the seafoam through your engine's carb or vaccum line. You will be amazed at the ammount of stuff that it clears out of the engine. We ran it through our suburban and it looked like the house was on fire.

Re: Seafoam and Green Stabil

I was listening to the auto talk guy here in Minnesota and he was saying that seafoam was originally invented as a fogging oil for two stroke motors. Since then they have moved up to pretty much technician in a can. If it is snake oil it is good snake oil. Half of the motor problems I have had with my two strokes typically goes away with treating gas with seafoam.
