New to the forum and to Chryslers. I recently bought a boat with a Chrysler engine said to be a 1975 model. The serial number is 757HB / 13174. Can anyone confirm that 1975 is the year of this engine? Also where would I turn for a good service manual for this engine? What publisher, Seloc, Climer etc. I do have a "Chrysler Outboard" service manual rev 6/82 that came with it but I'm looking for a manual geared toward a novice mechanic.
Thanks fells.

Clymer will probably be the most user friendly manual. You will find the engine easy to repair and relatively simple and unconfusing.

If you have not yet started or run the engine, First check for spark, then check for compression. If spark is present and compression is acceptable (say 100 psi or more) then ASSUME that everything that can be out of adjustment IS out of adjustment. Using the manual, set everything to factory specs.

Then, replace the water pump impeller, the fuel pump diaphragm, and the lower unit oil. Fuel mix is 50-1 or one pint TCW3 oil to six gallons regular gasoline. Do not use regular automotive multi-grade oil.

Now you are ready to run it with reasonable assurance that it will not crap out on you the first time out. First run should be planned as a short shake-down cruise with no friends or family, just maybe a helper. You simply want to see if the engine will start on the water and run properly. Do not laugh--it is quite common for engines to start and run well in the driveway yet refuse to start on the water. If the shake-down goes ok, then plan a day with others.

This is no BS. I had a "Barrel Motor" once. It would start on the first pull and run full throttle all day long, AS LONG AS IT WAS IN A BARREL. It never ever started at a lake or river. I made many many attempts to start the motor at the lake and it would never even start.

I'd come home, put it in the barrel, and it ran on the first pull. I finally gave it away at a launch ramp the last time it failed to start at the lake.

Google Chrysler Crew or The Chrysler Crew. A page will come up with about 10 of 10,000 links. The first usually is automotive and not the correct site. go down about two or three links and you will see the Chrysler marine website. Click on that. The home page should come up. Try the chat room this Thursday night from 9PM to 11PM Eastern time. I'll be there as "Bronzeman"
