Dear boat manufactures, a 20' boat with a 3' swim platform is just that, its NOT a 23' boat! And no, hanging an anchor platform off the front does NOT increase its length either. GRrrrr...

Maybe its just me but I hate half truths and outright lies the boat manufactures put out about the length of their boats. I went to look at a 23' runabout (Chris Craft) and in reality it has less usable space than my 19' Capri. Pfftt...

You don't own a tape measure?

SHAME-to you.

Today, it's a lot about "garage fits".

Re: Pet peeve (Rant) on boat lengths.

My BIGGEST pet pieve actually prevented me from buying a boat.

I saw an ad for a 27' Sea ay Sundancer, right in my price range. Knowing Sea Ray made a 25', 26' and 27' version had me wondering if it truly was a 27'.

Assuming it was a 268 Sundancer as they were the most popular I started showing interest. Praying it was a 270 I kept at the guy. Come to find out it's a small block, which I figured took care of the idea it was a 270 (the 270 is a 10' beam 7000 lb express, a 350 would be very underpowered). A 268 could very well be equipped with a 350 though, although not optimal in my eyes.

Sure enough he sent some photos, and low and behold it was the 250. No thanks, I wanted the 268 or 270. Why advertise a 25' boat as a 27', when in actuality the 25' is 8'6" wide, and only sleeps 4, while the 27' is 10' wide and sleeps 6!

Aggrivates me.

How long is your boat when you pay for an overnight slip?

Wait a minute..... You mean my 16' Bayliner capri, which Bayliner lists as 16', is actually an 18' because it has a swim platform/ladder sticking out back? If I add a anchor roller to the bow, it will become a 19'?

Is my trailer going to be able to handle the larger boat? It was only designed to carry a 16'!!!

Re: Pet peeve (Rant) on boat lengths.

My primary boating interest is sailing. We own a 30' Catalina and have been looking to get a bigger boat for extended trips.

I drove 2 hours to look at a 42ft boat.... My mistake I should have refused to go without seeing pictures first (the owner claimed he was internet stupid) the damned boat was 42ft but had a 6ft bowsprit and a 3ft stern overhang combine that with the severely raked bow and the boat was actually a foot shorter at the waterline than our boat....

To say I was pissed would be an understatement. Never again.
