Surprise, but the CD player from junk(wal)mart, that was an christmas gift for the niece, failed right out of the package. Memorex brand. Maybe they should have stuck to magnetic tape. :(

Need to replace it with a real, working cd player, but getting in too deep.

The Sony's look good, but the are plenty of complaints about them. Panasonic, Coby, others ????

Anyone have any decent models to suggest? Prefer newer models, as it appears models become obsolete pretty quick.

Thanks

Go with a mp3 player if you can. I was an old dog but once I got one I stopped using the cd players completely. You can get an ipod or better an mp3 player that works with windows that will hold 1000s of songs and movies for $100 - $200.:)

I'm surprised the Sony's got bad reviews. They've been making portable CD players as long as anybody and I've always found them reliable. I would still recommend one. However, as mentioned above and MP3 player is the thing to have nowadays and you can't beat any of the Sandisk players for price and ease of use.

I use a scandisk 4gb that I purchased from ecost as a refurb unit. It displays pictures I loaded in, plays mps, acts as a voice recorder, built in fm receiver and best of all it plugs into my car.

I am real pleased with it and it is smaller than my cell phone. Check out woot or ecost...... even wllyworld has mp3 players cheap.

Start with a simple one and go bigger later on.

Iam with Bob vt,got my son a scandisk 4gb.
it will hold 1000,3 minute songs and plays for 15 hours!
it is better than an Ipod because you are not limited to just apple's site for music.
with the scandisc you can load your music off your computer or load your cds to your compiter and then put them on the scandisk.
it also has an fm radio,a built in mike to record voice.
it has a viewing screen to see what is playing and you can skip around in your tunes, not so with an Ipod.
it is teene it is smaller than an zippo liter.
I got it at amazon for $45.00

you aren't limited to Itunes with the Ipod. My Girlfriend uses Winamp to load songs on to her Ipod all the time.

I would also recommend an MP3 player. you can upload your CD's on to your computer and then load them on to your MP3 player.

I got the Phillips boombox out for Christmas music by the tree, and played
some cds. They make some now that also have an mp3 player included.
Highly recommended - do a search on amazon.com for phillips boombox.
