I was wondering, how much epense it woud be, or if it is possibleto do now, to add a longer shaft, and 2 props to my 5.0 ooutdrive??

I know that there is probably alot more entailed in doing this, than I realize, but wondered if I would "really notice" a big difference, or if it would be worth it.

Thanx

I think you need to be more detailed and tell us exactly what you have for an engine/drive.

But if your asking if you can replace the propshaft so you can have a duoprop on an alpha unit, no it cannot be done. Completely different than a bravo 3.

There seems to be one thing you are missing about the duo prop drives. It's not just 2 props stuck on a longer shaft, the 2 props are counter rotating. A shaft inside a shaft. All the shifting is done with a cone clutch in the upper gear units, not in the lower like an Alpha is.

Well, I will "try" o give as accurate information back, as I can.

The boat is a 5.0 carb. Mercruiser, in a 2006 LARSON 204 Escape fish/ski deck boat.

The owners manuel says AlphaBravo Models on the cover.

The boat is at the dealership right now, for some minor warranty issues. I probably won't see the boat for a couple of more weeks.

Understand that I'm short on the mechanical end of things.

You still need to know which drive you have. It's either an Alpha or a Bravo, you have to tell us. If you have the outdrives serial number, that would tell us which you have.

It's probably not worth the cost of replacing your whole outdrive. I hope this answers your original question.

Ayuh,...

With such definitive Information that you're providing,..
I'll give you a definitive Answer...

If it's an Alpha drive you've got,..... Forget it,... Buy a different Boat.....

If it's a Bravo I,... You just have to replace the Lower Unit,.... Probably only a few Grand...
If it's a Bravo II,... Same Answer....
If it's a Bravo III,.... You've Already got them......

I guess that I really don't know what I had hoped to achieve with a twin screw.

I guess that I thought that it would make for a better hole shot, improve fuel mileage, maybe a smoother ride.

Some #'s that I found on some papers was:Stern Drive # OW829504

Is this what was needed ??

That's an Alpha One Gen II outdrive.
You would have to change everything from the flywheel of the engine aft, including the drive.
Nothing 10 to 15K couldn't cure. The price of the props alone are 1500 to 1800 a set, complete drive (new from Merc) around 9K. Then you need the transom shield, gimbal ring, pivot housing and all the other parts.
Like bondo said, if you have an Alpha drive, sell the boat and get another boat with a Bravo III already on it.

Well,
You have the right idea.

Yes it would give you a better hole shot. (the difference in mine was spectacular going from the 460 King Cobra to the 454 Bravo III)

Improved mileage? probably, due to the significantly lower prop "slip"

But you probably wouldn't live long enough to realize the savings due to the huge cost of switching an Alpha to a Bravo III (unless you find a sweet deal like I did)

Better ride? probably not....that's more a function of the hull design....

Rick

Well, I guess the $ factor ended that thought !!!!!!!!

Short of a "bailout check", it won't happen.

Thanx, for all the input. I appreciate it.
