Re: starcraft chieftain

Hey gang,

I am finishing a complete restoration of my wife's 1975 Chieftain 18 OB. I have a few parts left over if any one needs them. Pay shipping and reasonable packaging cost from Savannah and they are yours. I hate to throw them away...

- Screen door and frame for the cuddy cabin
- Doors and slides for the fuel tank / battery compartment. I re-made the doors a few years ago with composite and covered them in laminate.
- Pull switches and original escutcheons for the nav lights and bilge pump
- Original Starcraft steering wheel
- gunwale mounted flood light with extra base - the other light flew off into Lake Skytook years ago:)
- orginal anchor light and stern nav light

I could use a frame for the drivers side wing window on the windshield if anyone has one laying around

EDIT Contact information removed as per forum rules.

Re: starcraft chieftain

I'm not totally sure what the protocol is for sharing links and photos. Im new here and haven't figured it all out yet. Hopefully this will work and is acceptable. Wish I had found this place when I started the project in 2006!

The story is long but the short tale is that we have a 1975 Starcraft Chieftain 18 with a 115 Evinrude. My wife's grandmother was the second owner and bought it sometime around 1977. My wife and her siblings all learned to fish and ski in this boat. Grandma gave it to us around 1992. Our kids now have also grown up in this boat. We moved to coastal Georgia in 2002 and the humidity finally finished the deck by 2006. We decided to do a complete trailer off restoration. It has taken 3 years, countless hours of work and loads of money but we are almost finished. All I have left to do is install the seats and some trim. We hope to have her back in the water this fall for a shakedown.

I don't have any recent pics showing the completed cabin, bulkheads and deck covering. I will add those later. The boat is in the shop this week having my mechanic troubleshoot the trim system. I have done 90% of the work myself but when it came to reinstalling the motor and trim system I let a pro do it.

I have invested enough to buy a much newer boat but it just wouldn't be the same. There is something special about this old girl.

You've done a heck of a job on it. Looks great. As I mentioned, we have a very active Starcraft community on here and we're have an aluminum Starcraft owners get-together in 2010 in Lake Anna, VA. Love you have you be a part of it.

Re: starcraft chieftain

Awesome thanks guys for the welcome and the invite. I wish I knew about you all 2 or 3 years ago when I was struggling to make key decisions about which way to go..Maybe now at least I can help others since I have been there and made my own mistakes.

Richmond is not too far for us..about 400 miles. I will have to check with the chief of the boat to see what our vacation plans are for next summer. If I get my way they will include lots of boating fun. I've been dry docked too long.

I will send you guys a updated link when I get more pics of the finished project. I have one of the bulkheads but it is appearantly too big to upload. the file size limitation is pretty small.

John feel free to hop down to the restoration forum and get a thread going on your resto . Theres a piiiiiile of us Starcrafters down there trying to get our boats back pon the water . I notice you are using photo bucket to store your pics and thats the easiest way to upload pics here really simple when you move your mouse over one of your pics on photobucket a drop down menu will pop up simply copy the last option by right clicking with your mouse and then paste the picture here in your thread .
