i have had a stroke and as such have nervous system problems.
for this reason sometimes handling money and writing checks becomes a problem. in order to keep my out of trouble and make sure i pay properly my wife has me use a discover card thats just for me.

my son came by and picked me up for lunch today. when i went to pay my card was turned down. my son picked up the tab and we left
called my wife and she had just got done canceling my card a half hour before
turns out the last time i was in las vegas someone got my card# and were trying to buy polker chips $100 at a time on line. they called and let her know and had all ready put a stop on the card.
this is a scam they run as once they get the chips online then they take them and cash them in.
any way we were happy to find out someone was looking out for our intrests.

Bank of America (VISA) does the same. They have called me more than once to verify that a charge was legit. Once they called my cell as I was standing at the counter waiting to have my credit verified.

Each case was a purchase that didn't fit my "normal" pattern.

Gives me some comfort.

What i do now, i use Bank of America bill pay.

They keep the record right on the page, for you to see, when you paid the last time, and when you want to pay them.

Cost nothing not even a stamp.

Can set it up 2 or 3 months in advance when you want someone paid it's simply marvelous really.

I highly recommend it. You never have to leave the house.

i have a PAY PAL debit/credit card, that is use when i have been paid to deliver a boat. they have called me many times when they see the card being used, in a different area of the country, or high cost items. i have my cell phone as the principal phone number on all my accounts.

I have a Wachovia Visa debit card. Was at a gas station and was having trouble with the pump. Had to enter the card info like three times or so. Visa was on the phone with me before I could get my gas tank filled. Now that is good service. Makes me wonder how they are even able to do that. You would think they are so busy that it would be hours before they could check up with you.

You would think they are so busy that it would be hours before they could check up with you.

Big brother is watching. In reality real time monitoring of credit transactions is common place. In the end the financial institutions are protecting themselves. Incurring "bad debt" from fraudulent card use saves them in the long run.

Protecting themselves and YOU is a common goal. I see NO issues with either.

I understand the real time monitoring thing. What I don't get is how they could possibly have enough manpower to have me on the phone within 5 minutes. This sort of thing must happen thousands if not 100's of thousands of times per day. If I try to call Wachovia right now it will be a 20 minute wait.

They're all on outbound calls.
