I might have to see if our 1909 Evinrude still grinds coffee. (Historical note: Bess Evinrude initially referred to Ole's invention as a 'coffee grinder'). It's been probably 20 years since we fired it up...

Love that. I didn't see when Ole died? Interesting that there was no mention of the I/O business. Considering the depth of the history lesson that seemed odd. I know it was a negative, but so was the bankruptcy and a few other notes . . .

well they really were not known for the i/o business. and would probably like to find a giant rub to sweep it under. along with the FICHT.

Hi Scott I wonder what the odds are for 2 of the 1909s being within a couple of miles of one another?Of course having one in the same family since new
is pretty unusual.Does Duane have one as well? That would make the odds really wild.

Hi Spike,
I only know of one older than ours and that is in Canada. Duane has at least one RBM but it is mid teens...

I was just going to ask if yours was the oldest known RBM, Scott.

If you do fire it up, please take a short video of it. I'd love to see and hear it in action. The oldest I've ever seen was a 1911.

What is funny is that the inventor of the I/O (Charlie Strang) ended up running OMC.

Strang sold the rights, along with sort of co-inventor Jim Wynne, to Volvo when he was still with KeiKhaefer Mercury. Wynne negotiated the deal. Strang was the brains.
