So my "Friend" who was using my new boat drug it over some rocks and scratched the hull pretty good. In one place the paint is completely off and you can see the fiberglass (this spot is about 5 square inches), in other places its just gouged slightly. Suffice it to say I am not a happy boy. In any event, I am trying to decide on the best and easiest method of repair. Simple bottom paint? Any other repair that is worth doing?

Thanks a bunch.

Re: RIB Hull Repair Question

you need to sand it very good and clean and patch the deep scratch with some jelly sand it clean some more and you must clean it real good with acetone or lacquer thinner to improve adhesion.
and then you need to Gelcoat it to get it to be water proof again. if you post your question in the boat restoration forum you will get more answers good luck.

you will need to repair the gouges before you re-paint.

a product called marine-tex will be an easy fix and a permanant patch......

if you need help to apply the marine tex.....just post back here and we will be happy to walk you thru it........

but if you search for jecesera's pic's of work so far.....he gives an exellent tutorial of marine tex repair.

cheers

I moved and combined your post. Regardless of what method you use .....marine tex or fiberlass resin...... make sure the hull is absolutely dry before you work on it or it will not stick or last.
