hi everyone I,m new to this forum just hoping someone else might some ideas on this starting problem .

I have been having starting issues for a while . Hard to start in morning engine turns over no problems but takes a long time to fire up I have tried a number of starting procedures primers pumped up already engine in water ready to go it does start up after a while keeps running on idle but very rough if you turn the engine off straight away, Will start ok one turn of key.
Once under way engines seems to shake a lot feels like its surgeing forward the boat going thru out the river to the bay . When appling more throttle to put boat up on plan engines runs rough until about 20 knots after that you would think there was nothing wrong .When we are fishing for about 1 or two hours same problem as the morning sometimes it coughs or sneezes I am not to sure to the turm but does start after a while This moter has been checked by one mechnic marine which he found loosing power down low which he changed single power pack on top of moter after a couple of weeks finally got to use it engine ran like brand new ... second time out starts to run rough again decide to take it to a different mechanic one who works on these moters he said he could not fault this engine very good for its age good conpression good spark new spark plugs new fuel new tanks correct oil ratio 50.1 when he checked engine in front of me there was a lot of smoke coming out of exhaust ask me if added the right oil.Look forward to any ideas

I would suspect that you carbs need to be cleaned if you have already verified that it has good compression and spark. Also are your choke plates closing fully? It sounds like the low speed jets may be partially blocked. Clean the carbs and then do a link and sink if that doesn't fix it.

Does the choke solenoid activate the choke butterflies when cold? When starting the engine cold, you push in on the key while cranking. This closes the choke butterflies for quick cold starts.
