right now i have a 1973 65hp evinrude motor. but it needs two new pistons and boring done on it. when i was pulling the motor apart to night i had found that there was a hole on the side of the cylinder wall and some one looks like they try to jb weld the hole shut. i guess this is what get for buying something older then me. if any one has any sugestions for me or know someone who is selling a motor bigger then 40hp and it has to work in good condtion. can not spend more than $800.00

JB weld in the cylinder wall? Holy cow! This sounds bad. What I would do is try and find a good running powerhead to replace it. It might be cheaper than buying a whole new motor. It's possible someone here can help you find a good powerhead to replace yours with. It's worth a shot, before going through the expense of a whole new motor.

watch craigslist, and ebay. the problem with changing power head is that there are only 3 or 4 years that will work with that particular lower unit. 1973,74,75,76. the shift linkage is different for these years.
