I have two 150 hp 1993 ocean runners... Both of them have been worked on by several different people from Honolulu to Newington, NH.... They have been dropped from 80 feet into the river upside down... caught on fire, blown up and overhauled again...by different mechanics.... amazingly, they both still have some life left in them. The problem that I am facing is that the wiring is really hard to interpret even after hand over handing every wire. I really need to know three things... 1.Where can I get an electrical schematic of the engine wiring? 2.How to trouble shoot the power pack and that other thing that is electronic under the coils... or is that the power pack?? 3. How does the kill switch circuit work? This thing can probably be fixed by, again, another service rep and another couple thousand dollars... The ship is headed for Montevideo and I have time to work on it...but no parts... if I can figure out which parts are good and which parts are bad then maybe I can get one of them running... All help will be appreciated. Just seems like the schematics would be available on pdf somewhere. Thanks again.. Rockfoot:redface:

Thanks, tashasdaddy... that is a good site. I was just hoping for a schematic of the overall powerhead... like a trouble shooting schematic... good pictures for reference, though.. Now I know the difference between a "power pack" and a "rectifier/regulator". These things have "Optical" ignition,(OSI). If anybody has a schematic for these engines, I could certainly use one.. Thanks again...The problem is that there is no fire to the sparkplugs. I cannot easter egg these things without spare parts... I am comparing the two but am not sure which is good or bad without specific ohmic values/voltages to look for. Questions pop into my head like, is there supposed to be negative potential (-12vdc) on the kill switch circuit?? How can I jump out the kill switch circuit for testing?? It appears to be blackboxed just as the rest of this stuff is!! Thanks again, Rockfoot:(

that is what the service manual is for.

Yea... I'm with you on that. I have 4 automobiles and a FSM for each. They are like bibles to me. This ship has a work boat that the mates are responsible for. Most of the mates around here depend heavily on outside contractors and service reps. They let the thing go until its on its last legs, then call an outside service somewhere to fix the thing. Every now and then, we get a mate that shows some genuine interest in his job and wants to fix something. We are in the middle of a 22 day transit to Montevideo, Uruguay, with no stops in between...meaning if you ain't got it now, you ain't gonna get it. The amazing thing is that we have intermittent internet access... which is real nice. The mates have a owners manual and an operators manual for the boat and an electrical schematic for the boat to adapt to the motors with no mention of kill switches and alarms. I can get schematics and wiring diagrams for <1916 to 1966 Studebakers on line... I just thought that maybe there would be a schematic of a 1995 Johnson outboard motor on line. I mention that it is a 1995. When looking up the model numbers on that site you gave me, the numbers matched up to a 1995 and not a 1993, as I had been led to believe.

This should help you diagnose the optical system,

http://www.maxrules.com/fixomcoisignition.html

But you can't get around having the factory manual.
Kill switch can be disconnected by unplugging the bullet connectors, black and yellow wire going across the top of the power pack, mine is a 1994 J150.

I think you'll get more help if you describe the symptoms more fully, maybe start with one engine, then get to the other.
If either of them produces a spark then go with that one, otherwise it gets confusing which engine you're talking about.

Thanks, jonesg... That looks like exactly what I was looking for as far as checking out those power packs and optical ignition... I'll check em' out first thing in the morning. These motors are 1995 J150NXEOM's... I might have a bad kill switch...or not..... we'll see. Both motors have fired and run in the last couple of days but neither will fire now..at all...that is why I suspect the kill system. :D Thanks again...
PS I will order a Factory Service Manual tonight!! I might not get it for a while but it will show up sooner or later.;)
