The new is 5ply BC pine and the old is I have no clue CD pine or BC pine one? So anyway this was the only 5 ply in a 1/2" width within a 2hr drive that I called about and found..nobody else had 5ply 1/2" so I bought it, it was a good sheet of BC too the tiny knots you see on the bad side of the new board is about as bad as there was on it.

posting this because I know I asked a lot of questions and to be honest I am DANG proud of my finish product after cutting it out! I was amazed it turned out so good considering I have no experience at all with wood work. Cut the strip on our little 10" table saw and just put it on my dads band saw and took my time. It is a perfect fit!

only thing is the new one which is supposed to be 1/2" is very slighty under 1/2" and the old one is very slighty over 1/2"?? I guess the old one has swelled over the years not sure?

here are bad side of both and good side of both pics:

One thing I will add is when I called about this to see if this place had it one guy said yeah we have BCX which is what I asked for in a 5ply 1/2"

well drove a hour drive or a little more other there a couple days later and the guy I talked to wasn't there but a older man and a young guy was there.

we went back to get the plywood and in the cubie slot area this plywood was in it was marked BC PINE. The 2 guys there didn't know if it was exterior or interior they said they don't know what that guy ordered they just work there as loading peoples purchases etc. (this place was a very small pirvate owned town like lumber place)

so I have no clue if it's BCX or just BC.....but I was tired of hunting down 5ply 1/2" plywood so I bought the sob lol.

after all I am going to put down fiberglass mat and poly resin on it anyway. Which it might be exterior but I guess I'll never know but that one guy did say he had "BCX" and they only had one place for their BC pine and this came from that pile.

sheesh..

Nominal (dressed) lumber sizes have steadily shrunk over the years...there was a time when a 2" x 4", was actually that!

Nice looking B/C sheet you have! Compare yours to the original (probably C/D), and see the difference.

Only the 'stamp' will tell you if it is exterior glued...check your PM's for an example of this stamp.

Nioce job cutting the new ski locker cover. How do you plan to finish it? Epoxy coat, or ply and CSM? You have lots of choices.

Board looks great, can?t wait to see it sealed up.

Just curious what town might you live in that a drive of 1 to 2 hours is required to locate plywood?

Things like this interest me; I tend to view the profiles of those whose posts / threads I read.

Read your PM, went out and checked the new piece I cut and the rest of the new sheet left over...no stamp anywhere!

However, I looked on the old center cut board and on one side I can see like 25% of that stamp at most but the only thing you can see is "UP 1" and the U is on the edge...so I don't know it there was something before the U or not. But you can def. see "UP 1" on the old board.

is that the exposure grading on the old board or no? if so what does UP 1 tell you?

thanks

How old is your boat?

I think that you are seeing, what used to be the old Exposure 1 classification. This would make sense...given your application.

Here is a clearer link to the different grades...and where to use them:

If you did get B/CX...just do a decent job of sealing all sides, and enjoy!
