Hey guys,

Im new to this forum and owning a boat in general.

I have a 2005 Maxum 1900 Sr3 with a 4.3ltr mercruiser.

It has recently just started losing a lot of oil and after putting a new prop on has started to loose a lot of Drive leg fuild as well.

I am not sure but after a holiday i came back to a boat filled with fresh rain water and only the bottom of the motor was under water.

With losing oil, i am thinking a gasket has gone, or the oil sump seal has gone, im not too sure, are there any suggestions?

With losing drive leg fluid i think a seal may have popped but unsure, are there any suggestions on this as well!

The boats was running really well before it got filled with the fresh rain water.

Any commenst or suggestions would be great.

thanks in advance!

Ayuh,....

Until you can Identify Exactly where it's Leaking,...
There's not a whole lot We can do for you....

You'll either have to Find the leaks, or bring it to a Tech who Can....

Re: Oil Leak and losing Drive Leg fluid

Hey guys,

Thanks for the info, I will be degreasing the engine bay this weekend to find where the oil leak is coming from, then i will post up the area that seems to be the problem.

I would take it to a dealer but if it is something i can do, i would rather spend the hours doing it myself, and not have to spend the bucks paying for it.

Fingers crossed it is something simple!!

thanks again,
nate

Re: Oil Leak and losing Drive Leg fluid

Hey guys,

topped to oil up the other day, started the boat up on land and got it to operating temperature and ran for 15mins. NO LEAKS, which i thought was strange. Any suggestions on this?

I did notice that the oil filter is a bit rusty around the seal, so i will replace this.

And i will take it out and give it a run to see if an oil leak appears.

Havent been able to locate any where the drive lube fluid is coming out either!! strange!!

thanks,
nate

Re: Oil Leak and losing Drive Leg fluid

hey guys,

just started the boat up for a run during the week and found the leak, thank god for that. It is coming from the sump drain area where the dipstick goes into. There is also a long tube, which i believe is the syphon tube and that is where the oil is leaking from.

Any suggestion on how to fix this problem?? i think it would be an easy fix, and how would i go about fixing this problem?

thanks in advance nate

Just guessing here, but it sounds like you are referring to the dipstick tube going to the bottom of the engine oil pan. Is this correct? if that is it, then it is NOT your problem, that is for engine oil, not gear lube.
If you are loosing gear lube from the drive or drive reservoir on the engine, pull the drive and check the bellows for gear lube in it. It will leak into the bilge through a hole in the transom shield, and if the bellows is torn, water will come in also.

Re: Oil Leak and losing Drive Leg fluid

Thanks for the info Don,

I have got both engine oil leaking and drive fluid leaking a bit, i posted up that i did have both problems. and yes it is coming from the dipstick pipe

It was that i started it up the other night and found finally where it was coming from and hoped that maybe somebody could advise on how to fix the engine oil leaking problem?

But i will take the drive out and search for where the drive lube is coming from

thanks again,
nate
