Howdy all,

A friend of mine has a problem with his boat motor. He says he was running along and suddenly lost power, he was able to limp back to the boat ramp. He discovered a burnt wire on the motor.

I have a few pictures of it. I was hoping someone here might take a look at the pictures and please let me know what might have happened and maybe a ball park idea of what it would cost to fix. Thank you much.

I was able to finally get a hold of my friend. He said the motor did not get hot and that there was no alarm. He said he was running along and all of a sudden he lost power.

the grounding of the wire, may have put the motor in slow mode, max rpms, would be 2500, to keep from ruining motor. it thought the motor was running hot. but why the wire burnt, no idea.

Yeah the burnt wire might just be the tip on an iceberg. I guess we'll replace that sending unit first and see what happens from there. Thank you very much for your help and insight.
