I have a 2001 Yamaha 225SX with the Yamaha gages. The alarm buzzer does not sound when starting the engine. I pulled the ignition switch and checked the buzzer by disconnecting the connectors and connecting 12 volts to the buzzer - the buzzer works.

I checked the supply voltage coming to the buzzer when turning on the switch and the voltage was only about 1.5 volts.

The gages work - tach, oil level, back lights, trim indicator etc.

I dont have a wiring diagram to see where the feed for the buzzer comes from.

Any ideas what to check next?

Re: Alarm Buzzer

and the problem is??

so far its all working as designed.
unless its twins with the correct yamaha wiring they dont self test at key on power.
a quick test on that motor is simply unclip the emergency stop lanyard and crank it.
while cranking with the stop lanyard out you should have an audible.
supply Voltage comes from the yellow key on feed and the CDI/ECU completes the ground path.
on yamahas so far ,all lamps and audibles, except yellow lamp for low remote oil tank level, are controled by making the ground path.

Re: Alarm Buzzer

Its a single 225 with the factory yamaha gages. It used to have an audible momentary alarm when the gages were going thru initial check, when the switch was turned on prior to cranking the engine.

There is also no audible alarm if cranking without the e-stop lanyard inserted.

I'll run down the wires and connections that you mentioned.

Thanks

Re: Alarm Buzzer

yamaha never used a self test system on single engines for the US market.
someone may have cut in a horn like the old 3 wire OMC but from yamaha on single engine applications there has never been a self test at key on power.
