Hi Folks, my 1988 fourwinns 245 omc 5.7L is dead and I found an 1990 omc 5.8L. Is it possible to do the swap easily?
Thanks

As long as you have EVERYTHING for the 5.8 it should be fairly simple. When I say everything, that means exhaust system up to the Y pipe, the flywheel cover, the coupler, and everything on the engine.

It may be "easy", but it's not a good idea at all.
You say this beause there are twice if not three or four 5.7's for every 5.8?
Or being OMC he'd be better off swapping the whole deal?
All the above?

You're going from a Chevy 5.7 to a Ford 5.8, the engine mounts might be in a slightly different place, the OE exhaust may not mate up the to the Chevy Y pipe (check the parts #s to see if it's the same part), in other words, it is doable if you have everything, but not as easy as dropping in another 5.7. Keep im mind that marinized parts are a lot easier to get for Chevy engines than for Fords.

Anything I should look for to know if I'm not getting a lemon?

Exactly.

And for the reasons Lou mentions.

If you are buying a used engine, you would want to do a proper compression test on it at the least. Oil sample testing would be good too.
