Well i finally got my first boat!! It's 67 Larson All-American with 80hp evinrude. This boat is in immaculate shape for the age no rot and garage kept.My question is on the steering. When i turn the steering wheel either left or right i hear a clack clack clack. It sounds like like it's coming from the steering wheel itself.s there an adjustment on the steering i need to make or grease something up.

Congrats!!!
My first powerboat was a wooden 15' runabout which was handed down.

Yep, tough to say without more info....however, reach under the dash and grab the steering mechanism and see if you can wiggle it. It is possible that it is simply loose. I have a skiff that does the same thing...I just can't get to the darn bolts to tighten everything up.

I'm just going to wager a guess that if it's coming from underneath the dash (which I'm assuming is pic #2 and #3), it may just be that spring and adjustment bolt.

Also looking at the connection on the motor, shouldn't the connection point be in between that bracket on the motor? looks like it's bolted underneath.

It's an 80HP however the hood says 60.You know i'm not sure why the steering cable is mounted below in the bracket.Would it hurt anything to bolt it in it's proper location.

Also can i just tighten the bolt so the steering firms up.

Thanks in advance
