Hello, i just recently noticed my merc was smoking more than normal. im a lil engine savy, so i pushed in the key (motor was operating temp) to enguage the enrichener/choke. nothing happened. no motor rpm difference at all. now i know why the motor doesn't start hard.lol.
can anyone tell me if the efi does indeed have a enrichener, & if it does, where might it be. all the merc. parts list doesn't even list one.
gregg

actually i just looked under the console. the wire for the enrichener (black/yellow stripe) is capped off under there. apparently this motor does not utilize an enrichener?

That motor does not have a user operated enricher/choke. Pushing the key in does nothing, it is a feature of the merc ignition that is not used on an EFI motor.

The ECU controls the amount of fuel that is injected.

thank you for the reply. it really didn't make much sense that an efi would have that animal. ok, now im still trying to figure out a the smoke, and sheen left in the water? motor even does it on startup, until it's up on a plane. reguardless how long at idle it runs. and WOW the fuel consupmtion is terrible for a clean hull.

Get back to the basics.

Check spark
spark plugs
Compression

A fouled plug or no spark on one cyl or very low compression on one hole can cause smoke/sheen on the water.

Hopefully you can deal with it before it becomes an expensive problem.
