Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard, Bob,....

I've never glue it, but I suppose you can,...
Just use whatever Waterproof Glue you can find....

Btw,...
Run the Staples in from the bottom, or sides, so they won't ever be able to Scratch your hull....

I wouldn't glue it as the staples will hold just fine, and if you ever need to replace the carpet again it will be a PITA to remove the old glued carpet. Use SS or Monel staples so they don't rust out.

I use trim adhesive on all of mine, it prevents the carpet from stretching or wrinkling. Good indoor outdoor or marine carpet, 3M trim adhesive spray and stainless staples is what works for me. The last set I made looks like new and their over 4 years old now.
I rarely use pressure treated wood too, especially since most of my boats are now aluminum.

My bunks are made from 2x4 treated with the old .40 CCA which I wish I had bought a bunch of!

I used rubber backed loop-pile carpet from Home Depot (3'x5' area rug) and stainless (monel) staples and that was in 2002- done nothing since.

You'll do fine.

Re: replacing carpet on trailer bunks

Surprisingly, most all OEM trailer bunks don't seem to be pressure treated?
My guess is that they just don't figure it makes much difference. Most factory bunks I've seen have been pretty loosely wrapped, with no glue at all and by far not near enough nails or staples. The last one I had new didn't even have stainless staples holding the carpet on and the carpet only barely covered the sides of the 2x4 bunks.

When I make new bunks, I use either redwood, cedar, or PT wood. (I'm leary of the PT with an aluminum hull). I spray the board and carpet will with contact trim adhesive, and roll the board onto the carpet, using stainless staples on the underside. The wood is well coated with glue, which no doubt helps preserve the wood, and the carpet I use is a waterproof outdoor carpet. The first one I did this way is still as good as new many years later.

I would suppose that any good outdoor carpet would suffice, and if your using PT wood, then just stapling it down should do fine. What I do is overkill, but I tend to do everything that way.

I simply staple my carpet on.
As noted above, don't staple on top. Stainless staples are just fine, monel is best (depending on how much you wanna spend on staples).

Monel staples from Arrow are only about $14 a box of 1250 last time I bought them. I use very few of them but try to keep some on hand. However, the dumb DUMB D-U-M-B stupid employees of my last "real" job (I was foreman for a construction company) kept opening the boxes I put away separately in the drawers in the job trailer and using them to put up insulation or whatever- no matter how many times I explained what they were and why they were different. They were so stupid - they would never use staples from an open box. Always had to open a new box- except for the monel staples:eek:: they just kept using 'em up!:( I don't know if they were actually that stupid or if they were just trying to irritate me (likely) but ARRRGH:mad:. In the old west they would have been shot.

:DThank you- I have been wanting to get that out for almost two years.:D

I used pressure treated wood and the rubber backed outdoor carpet from lowes as well as ss staples. 6 years and running so far with that set up
