My little girl was born. Her braces came off Friday and she has become a beautiful young lady way too quickly for me. She had her friends stay over last night and they swooned to talk of "cute boys". One thing is for sure, I am not prepared or equipped for the events which will inevitably occur in our future. I hope for her sake I handle them well. My wife does her best to guide me (and her), but the "hunter/gatherer" instincts often take over from the diplomat.

She was born during a blizzard and I ignored all traffic codes leaving a vapor trail as I aimed my truck East to the hospital. Talk this afternoon of a 15-20" blizzard this evening on Long Island has reminded me of that special day. As I sat peacefully reflecting, my wife remarked "what are you smiling about?". I started my response by saying "13 years ago today......"

Thank heaven for little girls.

I had three girls and now my only granddaughter is just about the same age as your daughter, Angus. Girls sure didn't look like that when I was 14.

My best wishes to Ms. Little-Angus.

Don't blink. That snowstorm was just yesterday and it never slows down.

My son stopped in today with my two grandchildren and when I started dating his mother was only yesterday.

Don't blink.

Thanks all. I really know now she is growing up. After the cake this evening she pulled me aside, kissed me on the cheek, and said "thank you dad". Worth every minute for the special ones!!!

I have 2 girls 9 and 4. To watch them grow up, man I cant believe how fast it all happens. Your right, seems like yesterday.

"don't blink" I think I heard a song with that same message. Seems like sound advice. Now if i could just find something to prop my eyes open with...:D:D

This should bring tears to the eyes of any father of little girls of any age. Mine are 30 and 28 and I still get choked.

Yesterday I had my 2 girls with me ... one will be 26 on Wednesday and the other is 7. Looking at the 2 of them ... my head just spins! Oldest daughter's boyfriend shots on my archery team ... and he is VERY careful when he is around! LOL!

my oldest (which is a girl) will be 18 may 1st.....dont know how im gonna take it when she goes off to college.

my youngest (also a girl) will be 13 in october and my son will be 17 in july.....poor guy stuck in the middle........when he was smaller he asked "how come they out number us dad?.....couldnt you and mom have just one more?....and make it a boy?"

its a great feeling when you are appreciated.............but there are times when im sure all 3 of my kids have wished me at the bottom of the lake..........you know that "burst into flames" look......get that a lot when i have to relieve them of their autos.

yes they do grow up before you know it..............of course i have had the chance to grow up with them-----im gonna be 35 in june

yep we started early.........but i dont regret it one bit...............the way i see it me and the wife will have the house back in around 5 yrs or so..........

i have asked my wife to place the "curse" on our kids.............yeah i got it when i was acting up-------mom said "i hope you have 3 that act just like you!"....................im just glad i got grazed by the curse----i have 3 kids but they dont act just like me........at least not always.............i guess what they say is true-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------you pay for your raising!!

My daughter turned 18 this past Dec. Gonna graduate this spring, working, has her own car bought and paid for it herself. Man that time went by fast. Just seems like yesterday I was teaching her how to tie her shoes.

Re: 13 years ago today......

My youngest was born 13 years ago this January 13 in a blizzard too. I spent the day shovelling snow every couple hours just to be sure I could get out. I didn't have 4 wheel drive then. I still got stuck on a road with snow past the bumper. A passing snow plow pulled me out.
Anyway they grow up to fast. While I was sort of hoping for a boy(I've settled for the boy dog now) I couldn't be happier with my third daughter. The sweetest child has brought joy to all of us. Even though at 13 she is starting to have her teenage moments, but I wouldn't trade her for the world.
I've always considered 13 a luckey number from then on.
