Just Bought Me A Used 2004 Bayliner.. Last Month And On My Third Time Out Fishing I Got To Close To To A Large Rock And Took Out A One Inch Out Of My Propeller.... Was Also Reading On This Site... You Should Always Have Two Propellers.... I Will Try And Have This One Fixed.... But I Am Planning On Buying A New One This Week... But My Prop Has No Ser # On It !.. My Moter Is A Mercury Mercruiser 3.0 Alpha 135 H/p .... I Don't Know What Year The Motor Is. It's My Lake Fishing Boat.... I Don't Pull Skiers ! Could Anybody Please Give The Old Bulldog Some Advice On How I Should Go About Replacing My Prop ? It Looks Like It's Held On By One Nut.... So I Might Be Able To Do It Myself ! Should I Just Take It Off Myself And Bring It To A Propeller Store And Say.... I Need One Just Like This ? But New Or Should I Try And Up-grade To Something Better ?

Thaks For Your Help

It's hard to say if you should change prop specs based on what we know about it. A prop shop can fix the one you chewed up and sell you another similar or exactly like it. After you have the old one fixed you can dial it in. The shop will be able to tweek it out to suit your rpm/performance needs. They can usually make cupping mods that in effect add or remove a degree to the prop pitch as I understand it. 1 inch isn't alot to a prop shop, I've done it too.

Bulldog:

Welcome! Yes...take the prop off yourself and bring it to the prop dealer or prop repair shop. It's very easy to take them off...as long as the prop shaft had been greased...so that the prop doesn't stick.

In regards to your question about different props. The experts around hear would probably like to know what your current prop is...i.e. diameter and pitch...along with performance data...what your wide open throttle rpm is with your normal load. GPS speed at WOT might help them as well. Without some data...the experts can't help you zero in on any specific prop or changes.

Good Luck....Also..good thing to have a spare prop...like you're talking about.

I'd also carry a spare prop nut in case you had to change it on the water and are like me who has a tendency to drop things at the worst moment.

Some props are marked only with the diameter and pitch such as 13-1/4 x 21 (13-1/4 inches in diameter and 21 inches of pitch). Without wide open throttle rpm with an average load we can't be of much help. Remove the prop and check the hub area behind the nut. Numbers may appear there. You can measure the diameter by measuring from the tip of one blade to the exact center of the prop shaft and then multiply by 2 if its a 3 blade prop. For a four blade measure blade tip to blade tip across opposite blades.

I have the same boat...and mine came with a 19" pitched prop.

Works great, and I upgraded to a stainless steel Quicksliver Stilletto 19"...and carry the original aluminum prop as my 'spare'.

Make sure that you pick up one of the plastic (floating) prop nut wrenches!

Yup, pop her off, slap her down on the counter and they'll hook you up.
Welcome aboard.
