My son has a college project, due tonight of course  Math of some sort. The problem was given to him on a Word 2007 file and we do not own a copy. Will not open properly in Word 2003. I was thinking if one of you guys (gal) had 2007 I could email the file and ask you to save it down to 2003 maybe he could work with it then. I might have to send back to save as Word 2007 . . . PITA

I guess just PM an email address if we can make this happen. Thanks :)

Go to http:\\www.openoffice.org and downlaod openoffice.
It can read and write a plethora of different formats.
I can't say whether it will or not with Word 2007, but I can say it woks with all previous version. It should take but a few minutes to find out.

I won! The only way the Don could have an advantage over me is if he answered all the questions before sending it back! :)

Okay, despite all of our efforts . . . he is going to just do it on paper as he has the original print. He's not allowed to turn it in this way so it is a bit of a gamble, but he will have to go to the Professor in the morning and just ask if he can fill in the doc there. This is Principles of Engineering 401. He is gifted in math and he says his teacher knows how strong he is and should let him turn it in. We'll see.

Oh and it turns out that he could've put a number of different versions on his memory stick when he left class, but he assumed that vwe had Word 2007 . . . I hope lesson was learned.
Thanks for the effort guys

Well, there is a way around all the 2007 vs. 2003 compatability problems.
I just received a Word 2007 .docx document and couldn't open it. Went to MS and sure enough there is a fix.

I still have my MS Word 2003 but can now open edit etc any 2007 doc. This also works for Excel and Power Point.

The link in post #3 goes to that.:) That would have been my suggested solution too but QC said "No the converter didn't work and I think it was already installed . . .". So :confused::confused:

I wish Office 2007 didn't default to the .docx format. Many people don't pay attention to file formats. They just save. It's fine for their computer, but assuming everyone has Office 2007 is a big assumption.

By the way if you ever run across one of Open Office's .odf files and you're using MS Office, there's a converter for that too.

Yeah, same package. It is some sort of dedicated 2007 feature embedded in that doc. Not sure, but nothing else makes sense. Thanks again. Teacher didn't even show for class BTW . . .
