Fuel pump before carb?

My 1975 Evinrude 25 died on me in open water over Christmas. It just died and would not re-start. I attribute the failure to the ethanol in Florida's fuel.

I have cleaned the fuel filter at the pump (it didn't look bad) and am preparing to clean the carb. However it occurred to me that if the fuel pump is dissolving, it will simply re-clog the carb.

How do I, or should I bother, to check my fuel pump? Interestingly, when I disconnected the fuel line from the motor, it was definately under pressure.

i suggest that you replace all fuel lines, with alcohol resistant fuel lines, then clean the carb. ethanol eats the old lines, causing the carb problems. inline fuel filter will not hurt either.

So don't worry about the fuel pump?

The fuel pump is part of the fuel system. Yes -- rebuild it.
