Hi,

Hoping someone here can help me. I have an 05 df 250 that is idling in nuetral at 1000 rpm's. It says in tha manual that it was factory set at 625- 675 rpm. The problem with the higher rpm for my liking is that I troll and I need to get dowm to 2 mph. Currently at the 1000 rpm I am at 3.2 rpm. Any suggestions on how to turn dowm the rpm's. The boat is shrink wrapped right now but I would like to tackle this as son as I get it ready to put in the lake. Thanks in advance for any help.

Most likely your throttle cable is out of adjustment. There is a specific procedure for adjusting it properly. I suggest you have your dealer check it. The EFI engines do not get that much out of whack unless there is something wrong.

did it ever idle correctly?
I'm wondering if you have a stuck open thermostat and the motor is staying in warmup mode and never getting to proper operating temp.

Have you ever changed or looked at the thermostats? Is the engine used in salt water?

Are you getting any alarms/flashing lights on the gauge when you start the engine to indicate any diagnostic codes?

If not, it could be:
Improper idle speed adjustment.
Improper throttle linkage adjustment
Faulty idle air control valve
Faulty engine temp sensor.

Re: Suzuki df 250 idling problem

no to all of your ?'s.

I was hoping that it would be an easy fix. Would you recommend trying to check out some of your suggestions on my own or should I bring it to a dealer?

Thanks for your help

It's been like that since new?? Why didn't you bring it back to the installing dealer? You must be having a hard time shifting out of gear.

If it has never run right since bought new from the dealer, I would bring it back to the dealer.

Doesn't it come with a six year warranty?

Re: Suzuki df 250 idling problem

Yes it has been that way since I bought it new. But think about it, how would I know that it was idling too high? I thought it was fine, why would I think other wise? I do not know what it was supposed to idle at! We are talking about 200 rpms. Is that going to noticable to any one that is not a Suzuki Mechanic? The only reason I found out that it may be idling to high was in discussion with a vendor selling trolling plates and drift socks. I told him that idling at 1000 rpms in gear I was moving at 3 mph. He said that he did not think it should be idling that high. That is how I found out that it my be an idling to high problem, not that it is a problem in any other way than trolling to fast, operates ands shifts fine otherwise !!

Re: Suzuki df 250 idling problem

on the motor is an Iac valve.
Idle Air control valve.

There is a simple procedure to set this correctly.
the idle air control valve is an actuator that lets more or less air into the intake determent by the ecm.

The ECM calculates how to position the valve and how much fuel to inject and when to fire the plugs.
there are a bunch of sensors that the ecm takes all its information from to make those calculations.
indeed a cold running engine might keep the rpm up a bit.

do you have a hard shifting problem?

i would defenatly get it set to the right rpm because you might slowly wear out the gears in your lowerunit each time you shift it into gear at idles speeds of 1000 rpm.

first i would verify it is indeed the rpm your tach is telling you.
