Beat me to it.

Although I still cast my vote for leave it alone if it is working. Visually, it doesn't look much worse than mine (original from 1996), and it still opperates perfectly. I would pull the cables/wires and clean the contacts, and run it as is.

You've got a ten year old salt water engine - if you go after every little rust spot and bit of corrosion, you won't have any money left when you need to replace the manifolds......BTW, have they been checked/ replaced recently?

Just so no one misunderstands how the electric fuel pump actually works and where it gets power, here is an example of how it is NOT done.

So it goes like this when you turn the key and start the boat the switch with read is you have oil pressure no oil pressure within 3-5 seconds it shuts off the fuel pump.

The facts are this. When you crank the engine to start, the fuel pump gets power from the starter solenoid. When the engine starts and you let off the key, the oil pressure only has to build to 5 to 7 psi to close the oil pressure switch. Then the pump starts running from power thru the oil pressure switch. It takes less than a second for the engine to build up enough oil pressure once fired, so the lag is no problem.
If the carb is full of fuel from cranking, it will run for 10 to 20 seconds on the fuel in the carb.

thanks everyone. also i switched over to the mercruiser oil filter #35-8663340Q03. also the manifolds, risers, thermostat, spark plugs, and impellar were changed around 30 hours ago. i faithfully ran fresh water throught the muffs for 5-6 minutes after every fresh/salt water run at home on the trailer. just wanting to have a little more peace of mind, so hopefully oil change, starter, oil pressure switch, and sensor and i am good to go. mid 80's everyday since sunday and for next couple of day:D

i owned/raced a honda crf450r for a few years, believe me, its a good thing to replace parts that are not broken
