I need to replace the flywheel on a 1977 galaxie omc, 302 ford. Can this be done without pulling the engine out. It is too old to pay a repair shop 200.00 per hour. Trying to do it myself. Where can I find specs to follow the right procedure if it can be done. Thanks

Re: replacing flywheel

No, you have to pull the engine to replace the flywheel. Think about where the flywheel is and what it's hooked to.
Why do you want to replace the flywheel?
$200 per hour?????? Find another shop, I don't care how good they are, no shop get's those kinds of rates and stays in buisness very long.
The OEM service manual will teill you how to pull the engine.

Why won't it start? Does the engine turn over and not fire? Does the starter run but the engine doesn't turn, does it make noise, what???????
Flywheels seldom go bad, ring gears on the flywheel could have broken teeth, but from your lack of discription it's hard to say what is wrong.

When you try and start it, you can hear it just spin. I'm almost sure the teeth of gone on the flywheel

Remove the starter and look at the teeth on the ring gear on the flywheel. Are they broken or missing ???????
