I am fixing a couple soft spots on the deck of my 87 Larson 215. What I am wondering is should I epoxy the bottom of the patch or just use a sealer?

This is my first repair of this magnatude and I have cut back the bad spots into good wood. I am following a lot of the advice from you guys after hours of reading and searching..(how did we survive before the internet?) I am pretty confident in the method I chose, but want to make sure the repair is adequate.

Also, I am considering using a spray in bedliner material on the whole deck for future durability and then carpet over that for comfort. Is that a waste or worth while?

Yea, put fiberglass resin of the bottom side of the patch, and that will glue it down, kinda like fiberglass.

And if you put a bedliner down, don't put carpet down. One or the other. Or put paint with sand in it down.

The best way to fix a soft spot is to cut it back to a spot where the new and old join on a stringer. Kind of like sheathing a house. You want all seams supported. you really need to fiberglass the repair to make it waterproof. If water gets to the stringers and foam, they will rot and saturate, respectively.

Re: Sealing the underside of a floor patch

Thanks guys. I followed a video I saw about patching a hole and cut the rot back to good wood and 45'd it. I am going to 45 the patch and glass it. The foam on the under side was not wet. The small parts that were wet were removed but we are talking very little moisture below the wood. After reading some of the stories on here I think I go very lucky on my 2000 dollar investment. I can take my time as it won't be warm enough to pour resin for a few weeks.

I post up some pics if I think about it. Thanks again.
