I have a 1994 Mercury 60 hp that needs the impeller or water pump replaced. I have loosened all the nuts and bolts but it will not drop. I cannot figure out how to disconnect the shift linkage. This seems o be holding it up as the rear of the lower half ill drop slightly but the fornt will not. Is it the shift linkage? Can someone give me step by step on this? Thanks in advance for the help

Shift linkage is on a splined shaft and there is nothing to disconnect. If you have all 5 bolts/nuts off the drive shaft is probably stuck. Soemtimes they can be a real bear to un-freeze.

bhile, thanks...that worked great. I have a manual on order. Just got the boat, used, for my son. Weather was good today and we started to work on it. I just did not want to force it without being sure.

Good luck, I could have used some.

If you graduate from gentle wooden wedges and rubber mallets to ball pien hammers, chisels and corvette trailer hitches as I did, don't give up, and be careful to wedge between the meaty parts of both castings.
